Tony Chennault Not Leaving Villanova

Villanova guard Tony Chennault has decided not to transfer, and will remain with the Wildcats for his senior year in 2013-14. He had previously announced earlier this offseason his intention to leave the program.

Chennault, a 6'2 point guard out of Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, provided a spark off the bench last season for Villanova while backing up freshman standout Ryan Arcidiacono. Chennault began his career playing in the ACC for two years at Wake Forest before transferring to Villanova prior to last season. At that time Chennault was granted a hardship waiver to transfer closer to home due to family illness so he was not required to sit out a year before playing for Villanova. Transferring again to another Division 1 school would require Chennault to sit out an entire year or transfer to a lower division program. In a move that could open up back court minutes for Chennault with the Wildcats next season, sophomore SG Ash Yacoubou will transfer from Villanova this offseason, most likely to Pitt, St. Louis or Georgia Tech. However, Villanova has signed 6'4 SG Josh Hart for next year's recruiting class who will compete for time on the floor as a freshman.
