JUCO Forward James Kelly commits to Miami (FL)

Owens Community College (OH) sophomore forward James Kelly 6’8” announced today on twitter that he has verbally committed to Miami (FL).

Kelly came to Owens Community College from Pioneer High School (MI) as an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-Michigan selection which is quite impressive since he didn't start playing basketball until his junior year of high school. After a stellar freshman year at Owens where he averaged 17.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, Kelly garnered attention as one of the top JUCO players in the nation and drew attention from Division 1 programs such as Miami, New Mexico, St. Bonaventure, Louisiana Tech and Marshall. This past summer, Kelly was selected for the Mullens Top 100 JUCO camp in St. Louis, Missouri.  Kelly finished his sophomore year averaging over 18 pts and 10 rebs per game. Kelly’s final list was down to Miami and New Mexico. Kelly’s coach, Keith Raine was very proud of Kelly’s decision to choose Miami. With multiple seniors in Miami’s front court graduating after this season, Kelly, who will be a junior, should see plenty of playing time next year for Miami head coach Jim Larranaga.
