Longtime UConn Assistant George Blaney Retires

Longtime UConn basketball assistant coach George Blaney has announced his retirement after 43 years of coaching college basketball.

Blaney spent most of his 12 years at UConn alongside legendary former head coach Jim Calhoun as both an assistant and associate head coach. Blaney coached the team on an interim basis when Calhoun missed time due to illness. In his final season last year, Blaney assisted former UConn star and NBA player Kevin Ollie in his first year as UConn's head coach after replacing Calhoun. Blaney spent most of his career, 22 years, as head coach at Holy Cross, his alma mater.
