Is JaQuan Newton still considering Villanova? Yes.

Amid rumors that Ja'Quan Newton is considering a commitment to Minnesota or Syracuse in a package deal with fellow class of 2014 recruit Isaiah Whitehead, Newton recently answered "Yes" to a direct question on social media as to whether he is still considering Villanova. Newton, a 6'3 point guard out of Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, and Whitehead, a 6'4 shooting guard out of Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, confirmed the recruiting combo could happen, but also said their lists of schools remain open to change.

So far Villanova has not been reported as interested in Whitehead. However, Villanova will open up two scholarships after next season following the departure of seniors point guard Tony Chennault and wing James Bell. Also, former Villanova shooting guard Ash Yacoubou elected to transfer to St. Louis following his sophomore season, opening up another spot on the roster moving forward. Fostered by Villanova's reputation for success with guard oriented lineups, it is believed that Newton would co-exist well in Jay Wright's system with current Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono. Villanova has one 2014 commitment in 6'7 small forward Mikal Bridges (Malvern/Great Valley, PA). Besides the Wildcats, Orange and Golden Gophers, other hopefuls for a Whitehead / Newton package include Georgetown, UCLA, Miami, Pitt, St. John's and Rutgers.
