UCLA hires Steve Alford as head coach

UCLA has hired New Mexico head coach Steve Alford to replace Ben Howland.

This is a big win for UCLA to land a well known candidate after recent reports indicated that UCLA had been interested in Butler's Brad Stevens and VCU's Shaka Smart, but both decided to remain at their current schools. Alford is a household name from his playing days at Indiana under Bob Knight, and from recent success in the Mountain West Conference with New Mexico.
