Hoosiers Make Whitehead's List Late In The Game

Five star guard, Isaiah Whitehead received on offer from Tom Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night. The offer came shortly after James Blackmon Jr. decommitted from the Hoosiers.

This was the first time Whitehead has heard from Indiana, but that is not a factor for the five star recruit.  Indiana has now been added to Whitehead’s list of top schools and he plans to take an official visit there in September.

Crean has had recent success in a similar situation with 2013 recruit Troy Williams.  The Hoosiers were late in the mix for Williams, but that did not deter the recruit.  Crean has recently re-established the Hoosiers’ program and they are now considered among the nation’s elite teams.  The legendary reputation behind the program combined with their recent success definitely plays a role in their ability to grab the attention of recruits, even if it is late notice.

Whitehead is a combo guard that has point guard instincts and a scoring mentality.   He has great court vision and threads the needle to get his teammates the ball.  His offensive game is multi-dimensional with a consistent three point shot and various strong, explosive moves to the rim.

Whitehead’s frame and physical play would be great in a conference like the Big Ten.  He has the quickness of the smaller guards and the strength of the bigger guards, making him extremely versatile.

Indiana has one of the best atmospheres in college basketball, something that Whitehead has said is important to him.  Although Crean and Whitehead recently began talking, their first conversation lasted over one hour.  If Crean can form a relationship with Whitehead before getting him on campus, he has a great shot at securing Whitehead after the visit.

Whitehead plans to visit Syracuse on August 29th and will also be scheduling visits to UCLA, Arizona and Miami.

Whitehead plans to commit somewhere by November and take part in the early signing period.  He has not revealed which school is at the top of his list right now and will make that decision after he takes all of his official visits.
