One-Handed Sharp Shooter Offered Walk-On Spot at Florida

Zach Hodskins

Zach Hodskins, a 6’4” guard from Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton School has caught the attention of some college coaches this summer.  Hodskins is a pure three-point shooter that has excellent handles and is a great passer.  But there is one thing that seperates Hodskins from everybody else: he only has one hand.

Hodskins was born without any part of his left arm below the elbow but he never let this stop him from playing ball.  After an impressive summer of AAU, he was offered a preferred walk-on spot with the Florida Gators.

Although head coach Billy Donovan hasn’t offered him a scholarship, Hodskins still has the opportunity to be part of one of the nation’s top programs.

Donovan knows that Hodskins brings a level of toughness that no other player has.  He knows how to face adversity and his passion for the game trumps all.  These elements alone make Hodskins a valuable asset for the Gators.

Hodskins’ spot up jumper could potentially earn him some playing time.  Even if he doesn’t see the floor, having a leader like Hodskins on the bench will positively impact the mindset of his teammates.

Hodskins has not yet indicated if he plans to accept the walk-on offer or not.  The University of Alabama-Birmingham and Birmingham Southern are both reportedly considering offering him scholarship offers.
