Emmanuel Mudiay Picks SMU

Emmanuel Mudiay commits to SMU on a live ESPNU broadcast.

On the live telecast of the Under Armor Elite 24, Emmanuel Mudiay decided to play for the SMU Mustangs. Mudiay, the number two point guard in the Class of 2014 by ESPN, cited his desire to play close to home and to play for a Hall of Fame coach in Larry Brown as reasons for his decision. The 6'5" 190 pound point guard and Dallas native was named MVP of the event and looks to attract even more recruits for the Mustangs. Despite strong recruiting from Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas, and Oklahoma State, he ultimately chose the Mustangs because he felt that the growing program will provide with the proper atmosphere to prepare himself for the NBA.

Mudiay's decision to play for the SMU Mustangs makes the team immediate contenders in the 2014-2015 college basketball season. The Mustangs have not reached the NCAA Tournament since 1993 and Mudiay's commitment provides the team with a solid playmaker to build around. For Coach Larry Brown and the SMU program, this decision should bode well for their future. Having recently moved the American Athletic Conference(AAC), SMU and Emmanuel Mudiay will look to capture a conference title. Kentucky, which was actively recruiting Mudiay for his point guard services will look elsewhere to fill that void.
