Central Catholic High School star out of Massachusetts announced today, that he will commit to Fairfield for the 2014 campaign. Nelson, a 6’2, 165 lb 2014 shooting guard and Lawrence, Massachusetts native, pledged his commitment to the Stags via Twitter as he can now turn his attention to his final season at the high school level. Nelson helped guide Central Catholic to the Division 1 North sectional championship after averaging 17.2 points per game and is entering his senior season on the verge of eclipsing the 1,000 point mark for his high school career. This summer, playing for Boston Amateur Basketball Club, Nelson picked up offers from Jacksonville, George Washington, Vermont, Fairfield, Binghamton and Dartmouth.

Nelson becomes the first player to commit to the Stags and third year head coach Sydney Johnson, who took over the Fairfield program after Ed Cooley took the job at Providence. Nelson was one of the most feared scorers on the Nike EYBL summer circuit, shooting 46.8 percent from behind the three-point line. From his outstanding play and shooting, he was able to reap the benefits and draw in attention from numerous Division I programs.
