Emmanuel Mudiay Sure To Help Turn SMU Around

Emmanuel Mudiay- 2014

Emmanuel Mudiay, (Dallas, Texas/Prime Prep Academy) the fifth ranked prospect in 2014 by ESPN, committed to Southern Methodist University on Saturday.  This makes him the Mustang’s highest ranked recruit in history.

Mudiay selected Larry Brown and the Mustangs over Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Mudiay’s commitment is a major step in the direction Brown envisions for his program.  The point guard has already pledged to help recruit other top players in the nation to join him.  Mudiay will draw a lot of media attention for the program and will definitely secure the Mustangs more TV time.

Mudiay has already bought into Brown’s plan for the Mustangs and wants to be a part of turning the program around.  The Dallas native has what it takes to help Brown make SMU one of the elite programs in the nation.

The Mustangs were 15-17 last season but have much higher expectations for the near future.  In addition to Mudiay, Brown has landed some other players that will add versatility and talent to the roster in the upcoming season.

Freshman, Keith Frazier, a former McDonald’s All American, will be a key player for SMU this year.  The 6’5” guard is an excellent jump shooter with deep range.  Frazier was an instrumental part in Brown’s plan to turn SMU around and the combination of him and Mudiay will be one of the most talented backcourt duos in the nation.

Joining Frazier will be Illinois State transfer Nic Moore, Villanova transfer Markus Kennedy and Illinois transfer Crandall Head.  This trio gives the Mustangs more depth and will give Brown more options in terms of style of play.

Brown is the only coach to have championships in both the NBA and the NCAA.  SMU has not been to the NCAA tourney since 1993, which is sure to change soon.  The Mustangs are in the midst of a program transformation and Mudiay might be the final piece to Brown’s puzzle.
