7’2 Center Paschal Chukwu commits to Providence

Chukwu's game has drawn comparisons to former Georgetown Hoya and NBA star Dikembe Mutombo, who was a dominant defender and shot blocker.

Fairfield Prep's 7’2, 220 lb center out of Westport, Connecticut, Paschal Chukwu tweeted Thursday night that he will be headed to Providence in 2014. Chukwu chose Providence over several other East Coast schools like UConn, St. Joe’s, St. John’s and Pittsburgh. Many insiders believed he was leaning heavily on staying close to home at the University of Connecticut, reportedly had narrowed his final list down to St. Joseph's and Providence in the recent days. He joins fellow ESPN Top 100 commit Jalen Lindsey out of Huntington Prep, West Virginia, who will be coming to campus next fall.

Chukwu will play his season season at Fairfield College Prep School, and then join the Friars in 2014. Paschal ranks 58th in ESPN's Top 100 for the class of 2014.  He is said to have a decent mid-range jumper and a solid post game. He's an excellent shot-blocker whose ability to change direction only makes him that much more dangerous patrolling the paint and protecting the rim. After losing out on star recruit Kaleb Joseph to Syracuse a couple of weeks ago, Coach Ed Cooley and his staff look to be putting together one of the nation’s top recruiting class.
