LeRon Black commits to Fighting Illini

LeRon Black to the right, doesn't look too much smaller than NBA Superstar Kevin Durant.

Following a visit to Champaign, Ill. this weekend, White Station High’s forward Leron Black, a Top 25 recruit in the Class of 2014, committed to John Groce and the Illinois Fighting Illini this morning. In September, Black had committed to Baylor, but with time decided to decommit from the Baylor program, feeling that he had rushed his decision. The 6’7, 215 lb power foward out of Memphis, Tennessee, became one of the top players being sought out after this summer, gaining interest from powerhouses such as Indiana, Louisville and Ohio State. The five star forward joins Centennial High out of Illinois, forward Michael Finke in Illinois’s Class of 2014.

Black also had offers from Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina State, UCLA, and not to far from home Tennessee. Scouts had believed it was a shoe in that he’d go to Tennessee, so this might come as a surprise to people around the basketball world. He has great hands and can finish on the block, rebounds well in traffic and likes contact. He can run the floor and will eventually become a three as he works on his skill level. Scout’s had said “He is a child in a man’s body which catches your eye immediately”. Should be fun to see if the Fighting Illini and Coach John Groce can help him to grow “into his body”.
