Xavier Rathan-Mayes Deemed Ineligible

Xavier Rathan-Mayes now has to sit out his freshman year at FSU.

The touted guard Xavier Rathan Mayes has been deemed ineligible for the coming basketball season. The 44th ranked guard in the class of 2013 was expected to compete alongside sophomores Montay Brandon and Devon Bookert for the starting point guard position at FSU. His ineligibility comes as a result of academics, with the NCAA citing certain online courses that Rathan-Mayes completed during his time at Huntington Prep(WV). FSU, in a statement, declared that some of these online courses "could not be used to satisfy NCAA Division I initial-eligibility requirements". The 6'3" 180 pound point guard will look to improve his game in time for eligibility next season.

For the FSU Seminoles and Coach Leonard Hamilton, they lose in Rathan-Mayes clear star power. The top recruit and highlight of FSU's 2013 recruiting class was expected to make an immediate impact for the Seminoles this season. A strong shooter, Rathan-Mayes would have added a great offensive spark for the team. More importantly, Rathan-Mayes was in the running for the starting point guard position. The Seminoles will now have to wait another year for this young man's services.
