Marquette Picks Up Shayok

Marial Shayok- 2014

Marial Shayok (Ottawa, Ontario) announced his commitment to Buzz Williams and Marquette University last Thursday.  The 6’6” small forward currently attends Blair Academy in New Jersey.

Just hours before Shayok’s commitment, Jameel McKay announced that he would be leaving Marquette without ever playing a game for the Golden Eagles.

Shayok’s commitment to Williams came a week after attending Marquette Madness where the electric atmosphere convinced Shayok that Marquette was the place for him.  Providence and Virginia were the other two schools at the top of his list.

Marquette was in contact with Shayok throughout the summer and officially offered him in June following a successful summer season with Canada’s Junior Men’s National Team.

Shayok is a long, lanky wing that gives the Golden Eagles some size on the perimeter.  Despite his size, Shayok has a quick first step allowing him to explode past the defense.  He has a smooth jumper and can hit the three consistently.

Shayok is the fourth recruit in Williams’ 2014 class joining Malek Harris, Sandy Cohen and Ahmed Hill.
