Norway’s Matz Stockman joins Louisville earlier Today

Matz Stockman shown above, becomes the fifth recruit to sign for the deep class of 2014 for Rick Pitino and his coaching staff.

Louisville added a surprise commitment to its 2014 class when 7'2 Norwegian center Matz Stockman signed with the Cardinals earlier this morning. At a staggering 7’2, 200 lbs., Stockman was a huge surprise today, as many scouts do not know much about him. What they do know about Stockman is that he's from Oslo, he is said to own an 7'6 wingspan, he is also a member of the Canarias Basketball Academy, while averaging  7.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during the U18 European Championships this year. Canarias is the top basketball academy in Europe, having produced over 50 Division-I players in the last six years. Stockman adds to a 2014 class announced by Pitino last Friday, that includes Ballard High School guard Quentin Snider, Seattle guard Shaqquan Aaron, power forward Jaylen Johnson and center Chinanu Onuaku.

It is unknown to the other schools Stockman held other offers from, leading most to assume Louisville was the only school to put forth an offer towards Stockman. Coach Pitino has sure surprised the college basketball nation, but he must see something special in this kid. He is said to be very “agile” and “athletic” for a kid his size. If Pitino can get this young man’s full potential, Louisville is surely going to benefit with him manning the middle in 2014.
