Villanova vs Delaware Basketball Preview

Villanova Head Coach Jay Wright

Both Delaware and Villanova come into Friday night's game riding winning streaks and well rounded attacks.

The Blue Hens boast back to back wins over Hampton and Army, elevating them to a .500 record four games into the young season. While they average over 85 points per game, Delaware has yet to face a defense as intense and athletic as Villanova's.

In their last game against Army, Delaware's Jarvis Threatt stood out with 21 points and 8 assists, but all five starters scored in double figures in a balanced effort. The Blue Hens' leading scorer on the year is senior guard Devon Saddler at 23 points per game.

On the boards Delaware is paced by senior guard Davon Usher and sophomore forward Marvin King-Davis who have pulled down 8.5 and 6.5 rebounds per game respectively.

The Wildcats are undefeated at 3-0, limiting a previously undefeated Towson team to just 44 points while winning by 34 in their last game. Towson's Jerrelle Benimon, an NBA prospect, was held to 11 points on 3-8 shooting from the floor just days after scoring 32 in a win over Temple.

Leaders of the Villanova offensive attack have been senior guard James Bell and junior forward JayVaughn Pinkston. Both players average over 18 points per game. Bell has also chipped in 7 boards per contest, just one behind team rebounds leader Daniel Ochefu at 8 per game.

Guards Darrun Hilliard (13 ppg) and Tony Chennault (4.7 apg) have also been key contributors for the Cats. Sophomore guard and co-captain Ryan Arcidiacono is finding his rhythm as well with 12 points last game after battling through bruised ribs early in the season.

Game time is set for 7 PM EST to be televised on Fox Sports 1. inRecruit News will be there live at the Pavilion. We'll fill you in right after we hear from the coaches in the post game news conference.
