Arizona Wildcats: A view from the top

With a recent win over UNLV the Arizona Wildcats have a lot to be happy about. They are now ranked No. 1 after Michigan State was defeated by North Carolina. The Wildcats have not been ranked No. 1 since 2000. Coach Sean Miller has put together an amazing team with Nick Johnson at guard, freshman forward Aaron Gordon, and guard T.J McConnell, a transfer from Duquense. The Wildcats are on top of their game and are going to be hard to stop.
Even though the Wildcats somewhat struggled against the Rebels they were able to come back and win 63-58. Throughout the game neither the Rebels nor the Wildcats led by more than 6 points. They were able to out rebound the UNLV 41-29, 18 of these being offensive rebounds. There were a combined 30 turnovers made by both teams with the Rebels having 16 and the Wildcats with 14.
T.J McConnell contributed to the win with 13 points, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds. Brandon Ashley had 13 points and Nick Johnson along with Kaleb Tarczewski both had 12 points. During the second half they were able to step up their defense and put points on the board. Towards the end of the second half McConnell made a bounce pass to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson who made an explosive dunk and increased their lead to 60-57. McConnell was able to seal the Wildcats win with making one of two free throws with 15.3 seconds left.
The Wildcats have such a great team chemistry and you can tell just by how well they play together. They are able to read each other and make plays to put points on the scoreboard. It seems to be that other top ranked teams such as Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas have been struggling to find their groove, in turn paving the way for the Wildcats to be on top. If Arizona continues to play the way they are they are bound to have major success through out the season. Hopefully come March they are able to walk away with a National Championship.
