Keeping Up With the Times

UPDATE:

With the expansion of the ACC recruiting for the Tigers just all that harder. With the likes of Syracuse and Pittsburgh in the ACC now, recruiting is bound to get even more fierce in the ACC. Surrounded by perennial powerhouses like UNC and Duke along with trying to secure in-state recruits from rival South Carolina and even College of Charleston it’s easy to think that Clemson would get lost in the shuffle. Clemson may be a football school at it’s heart but there is no reason for anyone to give up on Clemson hoops quite yet.

On the contrary Clemson is doing quite alright in the recruiting business nabbing two solid recruits in Dave DeVoe and Donte Grantham

The 6’3 195 lbs Gabe DeVoe is a shooting guard out of Shelby, North Carolina while Donte Grantham is a 6’8 200 lbs power forward out of Harve Groove Military Academy.  Both recruits bring in a slew of talent that the Tigers are going to need if they hope to continue to be competitive in the ACC. North Carolina, Duke and Syracuse are going to almost always be right there at the top in terms of recruiting so it’s going to be important for the Tigers to continue to nab the recruits that they do grab.

DeVoe is a combo guard that has a silky smoothness to his game that will be problematic for defenses going forward. DeVoe is deadly from the mid-range and has the ability to stretch the floor as well with the three. DeVoe also get’s to the rim seemingly at anytime he wants.  DeVoe has a game that is very similar to a Joe Johnson in that he lulls you to sleep with the crossover before knocking down the J with the same ease as Johnson.  Grantham will have an immediate impact for Head Coach Brad Brownwell and the Tigers. Grantham has the wingspan and length to be a potential terror on defense as well as a dominant scorer on offense. The Harve Groove Military Academy product has a reliable jump shot as well as the ability to score when he wants to. Grantham’s skill set shows flashes of former Syracuse great and current Los Angeles Lakers Wesley Johnson. Grantham will have to get into the weightroom to be able to handle the kind of physicality that comes along with ACC basketball but the skyis the limit for this kid.

Clemson may be a football town at heart but with these two incoming players Littlejohn Coliseum may be rockin’ just like Death Valley does on Saturday’s in the fall. The only thing that is going to be missing is Howard’s Rock.
