Southern Miss lands Guard Jaysean Paige

Junior College standout Jaysean Paige as shown above, joins the Southern Miss program earlier today.

Southern Miss picked up a basketball verbal commitment from junior college guard Jaysean Paige on Monday, according to multiple reports online. Paige, who is transferring from Moberly Area Community College located in Missouri, also had offers from Marshall, Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky, among other schools. The 6’1, 180 lb Jamestown, New York native is averaging 22.1 points per game this season. Paige spent his freshman year at the College of Southern Idaho, where he averaged 13.7 points per game. He transferred as a high school senior to Perry County Central High School in Hazard, Kentucky, where he averaged 27 points per game. Paige joins a Southern Miss 2013-14 recruiting class that includes five players who signed in November.

The Empire State had lost one of its up-and-coming talents when Jaysean Paige transferred from Jamestown High in New York to Perry County Central in Kentucky. Paige's transfer came as a bit of a surprise and was a huge loss for Jamestown. As a sophomore, the standout guard averaged 26.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while leading the Red Raiders to the Class AA final. Scouts have referred to Paige as a very athletic two guard who can shoot the ball with “range” and is very explosive. Should be very interesting to see how Paige fits into Southern Miss’s system.
