Coach Sean Miller from the University of Arizona has picked up Mater Dei high school’s stand out Stanley Johnson to play for the Arizona Wildcats next season. It is no surprise Sean Miller has succeeded in picking up another top ten high school player in the nation. The latest top ten player in the nation Miller had recruited was Aaron Gordon. With the addition of Kadeem Allen from Hutchinson Junior College and Stanley Johnson, Arizona should have no problem being considered a powerhouse team next season. Stanley Johnson is ranked number nine in ESPN’s Top 100 class of 2014, number two by 24/7 sports, and number three in the nation by rivals.com. When it comes to winning, Stanley Johnson is no stranger in that category. Johnson has helped Mater Dei to three straight championships and was named player of the year honors during his junior year. As a senior, Stanley is also a three time All-American that looks forward to add a fourth state championship for his high school career at Mater Dei.

Over the summer of 2013, Stanley Johnson dominated multiple tournaments including the Pangos All-American Camp; where he took home the Most Outstanding Player honors. Johnson scored another honors at the Underarmour Elite 24 games in New York City. Johnson was part of Team Bed Stuy in the games, where they played against Team Coney Island. Although Team Bed Stuy lost, he was named one of the MVP’s for Team Bed Stuy along with team mate, Emmanuel Mudiay. Stanley was also part of the 2014 USA Red Team at the Adidas Nation Global tournament. His team along with Jahlil Okafor and Justice Winslow won second place in a loss against USA Blue Team.

With the combination of playing small forward and combo guard, Johnson is sure to be the leader of the Mater Dei Monarchs. With a 16-0 record, Mater Dei is expected to take the number one spot in the USA Today rankings. More good news for Stanley Johnson as he was selected by the USA Junior National Team to officially play for the 2014 Nike Summit along with Theo Pinson, Tyus Jones, and Jahlil Okafor. As of January 29, 2014, Stanley Johnson was selected as a starter for the West team by the McDonald’s All-American games. The event will be held in Chicago, Illinois on April 2, 2014.
